VAUGHAN PROFESSIONAL FIRE FIGHTERS ASSOCIATION
Although all Firefighters want an efficiently run Fire Service, let us not lose sight of the fact that such efficiency must not come at the expense of the Firefighter’s safety, livelihood or dignity.
Fallen Firefighter Memorial
The OPFFA has announced a $500,000 fundraising initiative that will result in the restoration of the memorial grounds and monument walls, which were damaged as a result of a cowardly act of vandalism on the evening of May 12, 2008. To donate visit the OPFFA Website.
Contract Negotiations
The Vaughan Professional Fire Fighters Association is currently trying to secure a new contract for our members. Our previous contract expired on December 31, 2006. Negotiations have started and broken down several times. We presented our case at an arbitration hearing in August 2008. A second day of hearings took place on 18 November 2008 at the Monte Carlo Inn. Following the final hearing day, the arbitration board will meet to determine our contract. All parties have expressed the desire to conclude this process before the end of 2008. In the meantime our members continue to work without a contract.
